How does one sign up for the composting program without buying all the paraphernalia at the Library?

You don’t have to purchase one of the kits at the library. As long as you have a place to store your food scraps, you may, as a Sleepy Hollow resident, drop off your scraps at Pierson Park in one of the large bins behind the Tarrytown Senior Center. The scraps are supposed to be contained in a compostible bag, such as those provided with the sale kits, however, some have complained that they split open/break before they can be placed in the drop-off bins, so loose scraps seem to be acceptable at this point. But please make sure to place only acceptable items in the drop-off bins. The requirements can be found on our website at sleepyholloweac.wordpress.com under Adopted Village-wide Programs – scroll down to Food Scraps, which I believe is the 4 item.
If you follow the above requirements, there is no special “sign-up.” The record keeping is done by TEAC (we forward our records to them) and is done so that if there are any changes to the program participants can be informed since the contract with the carting company as well as the drop-off site are with the Village of Tarrytown.
I hope this has been helpful.
Happy New Year!

Thank you! Your response was helpful, and I’m glad to participate in this program that you’ve started for our villages.
I hope it will grow substantially in 2020!
