Sleepy Hollow Complete Streets Policy & Design Guidelines, adopted by the  SH Board of Trustees on May 28, 2024. (Archive: May 17, 2016 Complete Streets Policy)

Priority Sleepy Hollow Intersections for Safety Improvements (Updated June 2025):

  1. Pilot/Paint: Kendall/Beekman
  2. Pilot/Paint: Pocantico/Route 9; add “don’t block the box” striping and signage
  3. Pilot/Paint: Chestnut/Valley
  4. Pilot/Paint: Teresa/Beekman
  5. Pilot/Paint: Curb extension at crosswalk west side of street; flip handicap and “No Parking” space on Pocantico across from Morse school to improve visibility
  6. Broadway Route 9/ Pocantico (Needs NYSDOT approval)
  7. Phelps/ Route 9/ Hemlock (Needs NYSDOT approval)
  8. Bell Bollards to deter vehicles mounting curb at Broadway/New Broad crosswalk aka “Mickey’s Auto” crosswalk

Permanent Installations Pending: 

  1. Cortlandt/Beekman Plaza design work (NY Forward grant funding)
  2. Cortlandt Streetscape Project (NY Forward grant funding)
  3. Raised Intersection at Clinton/Continental (East Parcel)
  4. Raised crosswalks on Clinton (East Parcel)
  5. Clinton/Beekman curb extensions

Completed Intersection Improvements: 

  1. 2024 – Pilot/Paint: Pocantico/Beekman south side (annual maintenance, bollards and planters) to receive a street mural by the Arts & Placemaking Committee volunteers
  2. 2024 – Pilot/Paint: Depeyster/Cortlandt (annual maintenance, bollards, and planters)
  3. 2024 – Pilot/Paint: Clinton/Beekman

We continue to identify intersections for pedestrian safety upgrades.

Bike Tarrytown organizes group rides around Tarrytown & Sleepy Hollow that bring together residents on two wheels to have fun, get cycling, get informed, and get involved. About 50 bikers participated in the 2023 Holiday Lights Ride (video below).
