Get ready to enjoy quiet weekends at home this fall. Gas-powered leaf blowers are now banned on weekends.
As part of the phase out of gas-powered leaf blowers, the machines are only allowed Monday to Friday 8am – 5pm only. This year gas leaf blowers are allowed until Dec. 31.
What to do if someone is using a gas-powered leaf blower out of those hours?
- Talk to the landscaper or homeowner. Often the landscaper will have an electric leafblower on hand and switch to it.
- Text the phone number on the side of the landscaper truck.
- If you don’t want a confrontation, call Sleepy Hollow Police non-emergency number 914-631-0800.
Meanwhile, Tarrytown is now working out how to ban gas leaf blowers, too. From the Tarrytown Environmental Committee newsletter:
Our Village Trustees are working out the details for revisions to Tarrytown’s Local Law regulating gas-powered leaf blowers (GPLBs). The plan includes an eventual ban on their use (with a few exceptions), as has been promulgated in several nearby communities. After the final language is ready, there will be a series of Public Hearings to listen to residents’ thoughts, pro and con, and revise if needed prior to voting it into law. There will also be outreach sessions to help residents and registered green contractors transition away from GPLBs. The Village and TEAC will notify residents when dates have been set.
