Broadway in the Rivertowns (Sleepy Hollow through Hastings-on-Hudson) was set up over 150 years ago for cars. Today we are presented with a unique opportunity to modernize our roads and incorporate safe transport for everyone. Now’s the time to change it. We need a Broadway everybody can use.
Residents and officials of the five villages began collaborating in 2015 to fix Route 9. A big step was the Active Transportation Plan, released in 2018. Subsequent years of organizing, planning and strategizing has led to the New York Department of Transportation (DOT) doing the “Route 9 from Sleepy Hollow to Hastings Complete Streets Preliminary Engineering” project. The consultant begins work on it this month!
This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for residents of the Rivertowns to make sure the DOT does a GREAT job in designing the roads for the modern community. Please take a moment to ask our County Executive and Governor to use international best practices that create safe spaces for all street users.
