Pumpkin Smash + Recycling

Join us for an annual tradition! Sustainable Sleepy Hollow hosts an annual pumpkin smash and year-round recycled pumpkin patch at the Peabody Preserve Outdoor Classroom. People can drop off pumpkins and gourds any time. The classroom is right across Route 9 from Sleepy Hollow Cemetery. The pumpkin patch is at the north end of the parking lot–you can’t miss it.

The annual Pumpkin Smash is the first Saturday after Thanksgiving weekend. (Raindate that Sunday.) The Sleepy Hollow Fire Department helps us break up pumpkins with a fire truck. Kids will find other crafts and activities.

During the winter, the wildlife of Peabody Preserve helps decompose the pumpkins. Deer, coyote, fox, possum, squirrels, mice and many birds have enjoyed the treat. Come spring, the pumpkins and gourds sprout. Students for Morse Elementary School help monitor and pick the pumpkins.
