| April 11 (Saturday)9am-12:30 pm: Compost Giveback Day. Gardeners, grab your buckets and take home some of the compost produced by our Villages’ Food Scrap Recycling programs. Stop by the Sleepy Hollow High School Admin Building Parking Lot – near the TASH farmers market. Take up to two large containers of free compost for your home garden. We will also have free pollinator friendly seeds.12pm-2pm: Sarah Michaels Park Spring Garden Refresh and Pollinator Planter Demo. No yard for a garden? No problem! Pick up free seeds and learn how to plant a beautiful planter that will have the pollinators flocking! (Raindate Sunday) April 12 (Sunday) 9-12pm: Community Garden Prep. We’ll be cleaning up and enriching the soil with fresh compost at the Community Vegetable Garden between the Paulding School and Cobb Lane, getting it ready for planting. We’ll also be showing how to remove invasive vines from the border fencing.1-3 Clean-Up at Beekman Avenue Pollinatator Garden Bring garden gloves and clippers. Meet across from Sleepy Hollow Village Hall April 18 (Saturday)10am-12:30pm: Green Horsemen Family Saturday/Earth Month Festival. The Village of Sleepy Hollow and TUFSD are co-sponsoring the combined Earth Month Festival/Green Horsemen Family Saturday, at Barnhardt Park. TUFSD is providing a grab & go breakfast donated by TaSH Farmers Market. Kids can do environmental crafts, get their face painted, or enjoy a bouncy castle. 10am-2pm: Friends of the Riverwalk Work Day. We’ll prune, pick up trash and remove early invasives. We’ll have gloves, bags and tools for adults and kids. Please join us to help keep the RiverWalk clean.10am-Noon: TEAC Vine Squad. Get a little exercise and save our trees from vicious, invasive vines! Meet at the Hikers’ Parking Lot at Wilson Park Drive and Tower Hill Road. April 19 (Sunday),8am: Morning Bird Walk. Join TEAC for a guided bird walk led by expert birder Yoni Rabino. An experienced leader and dedicated “lister” who has led our groups in the past, Yoni brings a wealth of knowledge regarding local and migratory species of the East Coast, with a specialized knack for identifying birds by both sight and sound. April 24 (Friday) Arbor Day10am: Arbor Day Planting in Sleepy Hollow. Tree-planting event with SPEAR students at high school, late morning near the high school on Chestnut Street.10am: Arbor Day Planting in Tarrytown. Tree-planting event in Patriots Park with John Paulding School students. April 25 (Saturday)9am-5pm Village Free Day: It’s like a town tag sale, only everything is free. Sleepy Hollow & Tarrytown Residents can put usable items they no longer want by their curb. Browse your neighborhood for treasures! If anything is left by your curb at the end of the day, please bring it back inside.10-11:30am Tree Identification Walk Join Arborist Redmond “Red” Tsao for a fascinating walk along the Tarrytown Lakes trails towards Wilson Park. Red will highlight interesting things about our local trees and show how to identify them at any time of the year. Meet at the Lakes parking lot on Neperan Rd.10am-12:00: Neperan Park Earth Month Celebration. TEAC and Little Gardens of Tarrytown are giving away pollinator friendly seeds for your garden. You can also help prepare our Neperan gardens for spring by removing invasives and preparing beds for new plantings. Learn about native plants and garden care. Please wear garden gloves and a long-sleeved shirt. April 26 (Sunday) 10am-1pm: Lakes Clean-Up. Hackley’s Lake Keepers will be cleaning up trails at their Earth Month clean up on Sunday, April 26, from 10 – 2. Meet at the Tarrytown Lakes parking lot on Neperan and Sunnyside Avenues. Stay as long as you like. Refreshments, gloves, trash pickers, and bags will be provided. Noon-2 Peabody Preserve Bird Walk Join Sustainable Sleepy Hollow and PPOC guides for a walk through the preserve in search of birdlife. Meet in the parking lot of Peabody Preserve (ample parking is available). This event is open to birders of all ages and levels of interest. Please bring binoculars! May 2 (Saturday)10am-12pm, Riverkeeper Sweep: Two starting locations, Tarrytown Losee Park Lot G and Sleepy Hollow Horan’s Landing. From Losee Park to Kingsland Point Park, we will sweep plastic and other waste out of the riverfront. 1-3 Understory Restoration at Douglas Park Join in the continued effort to plant shrubs and trees in the understory at one of our neighborhood parks. Bring a shovel and garden gloves or use ours. Meet at the entrance to Douglas Park at the end of New Broadway, Sleepy Hollow. |
