Sleepy Hollow Kids are Compost Leaders!

Kids in our community are tackling waste in lots of exciting ways. Check out the local kids in the below video who show us how easy it is to get started! By recycling our food waste, we reduce carbon emissions and air pollution while making something useful to the planet: compost.

Speaking of local kids, have you heard about how the littlest Horsemen in our school district are becoming zero waste leaders? The #WastelessHorsemen initiative, which gives students hands-on lessons in zero waste practices, launched at John Paulding School this fall. Later this year, the program will be introduced to W.L. Morse School and will slowly make its way throughout TUFSD. Read all about it.

And compost-lovers are convening in the Peabody Preserve, the outdoor classroom of our school district, for its annual Pumpkin Smash. Don’t trash those Halloween pumpkins–instead, mark your calendar for Saturday, November 11th and bring them to Peabody to be smashed and recycled! Let the birds, squirrels, deer and slime molds enjoy your pumpkin over the winter–maybe they’ll leave enough seeds for a pumpkin patch next year. We’ll have a dramatic reading of David Schwartz’s Rotten Pumpkin: A Rotten Tale in 15 Voices, plus fun contests. Bring us your rottenest pumpkins!
