Sustainable Sleepy Hollow

Between several leadership changes on our Committee and you know what, maintaining our website has fallen by the wayside over the past two years.

One of SHEAC’s goals for 2022 is to improve communications and outreach. The first down payment on this New Year’s Resolution, if you will, has been getting our meeting minutes organized. Each month’s minutes from 2016 – 2021 are now posted (and in a consistent, searchable format). Meetings that were skipped or cancelled, are noted as well.

Stay tuned for a food scrap composting education program we’ll be assembling and distributing. This is being enabled by a grant from the NY State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC), along with matching funds from the Village.

An even bigger endeavor will be creating a Climate Action Plan. SHEAC’s members are also members of Sleepy Hollow’s Climate Smart Community Task Force, which received a DEC grant to help the Village figure out how to (hopefully, dramatically) reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Watershed protection and healthy yards will be another focus for the Committee this year.
